Tips for Having the Perfect Senior Photoshoot

A senior photoshoot is a significant milestone that captures a pivotal time in a HS senior’s life. By following these tips, you'll be well-prepared to have a successful and enjoyable senior photoshoot, resulting in beautiful photos that you’ll cherish for years to come.

Preparation is Key

Choose the right photographer: It all starts with choosing the right photographer for you. Look for a photographer whose style you love and has good reviews.

Ensure that the photographer you choose has experience working with HS seniors. An amazing wedding photographer might not have the expertise to give you the perfect senior photo experience. By choosing someone who specializes in photographing HS senior you’ll know you’re getting someone that can give you what you’re looking for.

Plan Ahead: Popular Senior photographers get booked out weeks, even months in advance. Schedule your session ahead of time to ensure you get the photographer and date you want. Once you have your senior session date on your calendar you’ll have something to look forward to and will be able to start planning your outfits and scope out locations.

Location: Your photographer can also help you choose the best location and time of year for what you want such as a flower field, fall foliage, or beach. Each location has their peak time of year and your photographer should know when that is. Outfits and Styling

Outfit Choices:

  • Bring a variety of outfits: casual, dressy, and something in between. Even if you’re not going to wear them all, its good to have options on site.

  • Ensure your clothes are comfortable and make you feel confident.

  • Avoid busy patterns; solid colors and textured materials like corduroy, knits and suede photograph well.

Hair and Makeup:

Consider having your hair and makeup done professionally. Pro hair and makeup is included when you book your senior session with Annelise Bliss Photography.

Your senior photo session is not just any ol’ photoshoot, it’s a full experience and a celebration of YOU! I want you to look and feel like yourself, but shouldn’t you also look your absolute best for the photos you’ll use for your #seniorsunday posts, the framed pictures on your parents’ walls or to look back on in the future? Accessories and Props:

Bringing props to your senior photo session can add personality and uniqueness to your photos. They allow you to express your individuality and interests. Whether it's a musical instrument, sports equipment, or hobby-related items, props can reflect who you are and what you love.

These can include: sports equipment, instruments, hobby-related props, pets and personalized signs or banners. You can also bring accessories like hats, scarves, jewelry or sunglasses to add a personal touch to your photos.

Other things…

Be Yourself:

  • Relax and be yourself; genuine expressions make the best photos.

  • Don't be afraid to suggest poses you like to your photographer or reject poses that don’t make you feel like yourself.

  • Lighting:

    • Golden hour (the hour after sunrise and before sunset) provides the best natural lighting.

    • Ensure your photographer knows how to work with natural light or has appropriate lighting equipment

Bring a Friend or Family Member:

  • They can help with outfits, hair adjustments, and moral support and make you genuinely laugh.
