This blog is a resource for anyone preparing for branding photos, headshots, or senior portraits. I share practical tips, session prep advice, and creative inspiration so your photos feel intentional, natural, and true to you.
I'm Annelise- Let's build your confidence one camera click at a time.
Let me say this first, feeling awkward in front of the camera is completely normal. In fact, most of my clients come to me saying some version of, “I’m so awkward in front of the camera” or “I never know what to do with my hands.” And honestly? I get it. Because I used to feel the exact same way
During my 10+ years photographing clients, I realized something important: feeling comfortable in front of the camera isn’t something you either have or don’t have, it’s something that’s created through the right experience. More specifically, the right support, a relaxed environment, and a thoughtful photography session that’s designed around you.
First and foremost, feeling comfortable in front of the camera doesn’t begin on your shoot day, it starts well before that.
That’s why I guide you through a collaborative planning process so that you can start feeling comfortable before we even start. Together, we map out your vision, your brand personality, and how you want to show up. We talk through outfits, locations, props, and even the feeling you want your photos to convey.
As a result, you’re not showing up wondering what to do, you’re showing up with a plan.

Once the session begins, my focus shifts from planning to creating a environment where you can actually relax.
Rather than expecting you to “perform,” I gently guide you through natural movements and prompts. I’ll never leave you standing there thinking, “Now what?” Instead, I give direction in a way that feels easy and achievable.
At the same time, I pay close attention to your energy. If something feels stiff or forced, we pivot. We’ll turn on some fun music, take a break, or have a little chat.
Because ultimately, the best photography doesn’t come from perfect posing, it comes from genuine moments.

Here’s the truth, confidence has nothing to do with being flawless, it comes from feeling like yourself.
Throughout your session, I’m not just focused on how things look, I’m focused on how things feel. Your personality, your expressions, your natural energy. Those are the things that matter most.
And when you start to see those moments reflected back in your photos, something shifts. You begin to recognize yourself in a new, more confident way.
That’s what being comfortable on camera really looks like.
Of course, at the end of the day, you walk away with beautiful images, but more importantly, you walk away with a new sense of confidence in how you showed up.
Because when you feel comfortable on camera it shows in your photos, you’re more likely to:
In other words, brand photography becomes a tool, not just for visibility, but for self-trust.

If you’ve been putting off getting new brand or headshots photos because you’re worried about feeling awkward, you’re not alone. But you also don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
With the right guidance and a supportive experience, you can absolutely feel confident in front of the camera and dare I say, even enjoy it.
If you’re ready for brand photography that feels relaxed, collaborative, and natural, I’d love to work together. Reach out to start the conversation or schedule a discovery call to chat. I’m here to help you show up with confidence every step of the way.
